Stampestuen

NORWAY | 2021 PARTICIPANT

Stampestuen picks up forgotten songs about strong personalities with captivating life stories. On their debut album «Brev fra Amerika» (Letters from America) they interpreted songs by some of the many Norwegians that migrated to America. Their upcoming album (due to be released in the autumn 2021) is dedicated to songs about thieves, murderers, beggars and drifters – individuals that for different reasons ended up as enemies of the society in 19th century Norway.

The members of Stampestuen are established musicians in the Norwegian jazz- and traditional music scene, with a common interest in old songs and stories. Through the arrangements and use of instruments Stampestuen emphasizes on the lyrics, aiming to bring the historical events closer to us.
