Hurja Halla

FINLAND | 2022 PARTICIPANT

Trance-like beats and wistful moods. The music of Hurja Halla draws inspiration from Nordic nature and mythology. The duo’s unprejudiced sound is born from the symbiotic union of folk wind instruments and the cello, rarely heard in a folk music context. Cellist Liisa Haapanen and multi-instrumentalist Janne Ojajärvi released their critically acclaimed album Riitti in early 2022.

Liisa Haapanen – cello, human voice, percussions
Janne Ojajärvi – harmonica, jaw harp, willow flute, human voice, percussions
